The good news is the economy added 200,000 jobs last year. The bad news is, 150,000 of them were taken by James Franco.

Here are the embarrassing Hollywood statistics, all from The Celluloid Ceiling, a yearly study by Martha Lauzen of San Diego State University:
Of 2002’s top-grossing 100 films:
4% had female directors
8% had female writers
1% had female cinematographers
12% had female editors

And here are a few more stats:
Hollywood guilds are 80 to 90 % white.
No people of color employed by movie studios have the power to greenlight movies.
4 of the 44 partners or board members at the town’s top 5 talent agencies are women. None of the 44 are people of color.

Awards season is like a bar mitzvah, putting on a suit every weekend to go see a lot of Jews.

The Hollywood sign was first erected in 1923 and originally read “HOLLYWOODLAND”. Its purpose was to advertise the name of a new housing development in the hills above the Hollywood district of Los Angeles. The sign was officially dedicated on July 13, 1923. It was not intended to be permanent. Restoration company Bay Cal Painting says on its website that the expected life was to be about a year and a half, but after the rise of the American cinema in Los Angeles it became an internationally recognized symbol, and was left there.  In September 1932, Broadway actress Peg Entwistle, a resident of Beachwood Canyon, committed suicide by jumping to her death from the letter H.
